NOTW: My first attempt at Nail Art

This is by no means perfect, but I have admired many bbloggers nail designs for so long now and I wanted to give it a go. The only reason why it has taken me so long to get on board is because I don't have any tools or accessories. However, when browsing my blogroll on Saturday night, I saw that Nailasaurus had some very handy tips; she said that if you do not own a dotting tool, then use the end of a toothpick - easy! There are some great designs on this site so of course, I had to use some for inspiration. Here's how I got on....

My chosen colours:

An old white polish, Rimmel's Lasting Finish shade 80 Sunshine, Collection's Hot Looks shade 37 Bongo Beat, Rimmel's Lasting Finish shade 705 Tangy Tangerine, and a toothpick (plus a little bit of nail varnish remover to tidy up the edges.)
I started with a base coat (before tidying up!)

And then, to start the dots, I dolloped the polishes on a bit of plastic (to keep my table clean!) - only use one dollop at a time as the polish will become tacky quickly which is awkward to dot.

Then use the end of the toothpick to dot the polish, then dot your nail to create your shape. After seeing Nailasaurus' post, I decided on flowers - at first...

I got a little dot happy...

Obviously I need to practice more, but I am impressed that the end of a toothpick can produce such clean dots - it just shows you do not need to spend a lot of money to have fun nails!

Finish with a top coat (of course) once all of the layers have dried completely, and then I apply a layer of oil; I find that prevents the edges from cracking and flaking so soon - the problem I face most with painted nails!

And to finish this post, I thought I'd share this picture; my collection of polishes certainly is growing!

Next up on my list to try: ombre nails, galaxy nails, applying glitter... I think I'm going to need more colours...
