London Fashion Week may be on every fashionista's mind at the minute, but there is another event taking place for the next seven days which all sweet-toothed people are bound to love... National Cupcake Week!
Starting today, we can all treat ourselves to beautifully decorated cakes and not feel guilty (how perfect!) Cupcakes have become so popular in recent years - as little treats, in place of traditional birthday and wedding cakes, as a hobby or even becoming a business - so it is no surprise that we now have a week dedicated to them; 'British Baker', the industry publication that established National Cupcake Week, has reported that the UK has eaten around £23.5 million worth of cupcakes in the last year alone*! And now with bakers becoming so creative with their recipes, adding alcohol to make 'cuptails', unusual ingredients (breakfast cupcake, anyone?) and oh so pretty toppings, I'm pretty sure this is a trend that isn't going away anytime soon...
If you enjoy baking, then the National Cupcake Week website has recipes to try such as a gluten-free sticky toffee pudding creation and a 'Hats off to her majesty' royal special, as well as 'How To' videos featuring little tips and tricks of the trade and an events listing of bakeries around the country which are holding events especially for National Cupcake Week.
But there is a very important point to the week too; 'British Baker' has teamed up with CLIC Sargent,
a charity which helps children and young people with cancer, to raise awareness and money for the cause.
There are many ways you can be involved - hold a bake sale, have
special offers on your own cakes for example; whatever our contribution, you know it will be going to a very worthy cause. More information about the charity, how to be involved is available on the National Cupcake Week website.
